Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.
Recently, a certain otome game has been making waves, with its two responses slammed for "fixing nothing." Xiaodi noticed a very intriguing comment: Honor of Kings has faced no shortage of player complaints over the years, so why has it always managed to escape trouble? This brings us to how Honor of Kings handled similar situations correctly in the past. To be honest, when it comes to sticking to principles and listening to players, Honor of Kings really does serve as a "positive example." Let me explain in this episode.

Back in 2021, Honor of Kings planned a collaboration with the luxury brand Burberry to release the "Nature's Spirit" skin for Yao, along with a Star Legend skin called "Sea of Spirits." Pre-launch promotions had already started, and some promotional materials were released. However, right before the launch, this brand was involved in the controversy over boycotting Xinjiang cotton. On such a fundamental issue, Honor of Kings decisively canceled the collaboration and issued an official announcement explaining the decision. You see, by that stage, the collaboration was nearly complete and had required significant resources. So this decision was quite difficult, and it earned the support of many players.

Similarly, in 2023, Honor of Kings once again collaborated with luxury brand Bvlgari, planning a skin for Mi Yue. Over a dozen promotional posts were released, and a special cross-brand launch event was held. Yet again, right before the launch, the brand's official website displayed a map that misrepresented China's territory. Facing the same kind of fundamental issue, although Honor of Kings did not release an official statement this time, the skin was never mentioned again and has yet to be released to this day. The investment in this skin was undoubtedly huge, but Honor of Kings still made a firm choice.

In both cases, Honor of Kings handled the situation very well—without any additional excuses or defenses. As a result, player approval was high. However, this has also made Honor of Kings extremely cautious when it comes to future collaborations with sensitive or controversial IPs. Sometimes the brand isn't even mentioned in announcements; instead, the skin is quietly added in the next day's game update before any marketing begins.
Guan Yu's Honor of Kings exclusive skin, "Chiji Yingfeng," was announced in April 2022. The skin itself was quite good, but it had some minor issues—for instance, the character riding a motorcycle without a helmet, and the in-game one-handed riding, which violated real-world traffic rules. Many players gave feedback about this, and Honor of Kings took it seriously. The skin was sent back for rework, and after optimization, it was finally released in September. Now, the opening animation shows the character putting on a helmet, and in the game, he rides with both hands, only pulling out his weapon when using a skill, then putting it back afterward.

When the hero Sun Quan was first announced, his voice line was different from the current one. This was because many players found the original voice unpleasant and voiced their complaints. After evaluating the feedback, Honor of Kings chose to listen and immediately replaced the voice actor. The final version of Sun Quan's voice turned out much better. Now, his voice is provided by Ma Zhengyang, which sounds very pleasant.

In fact, there are many more examples—such as changes to the matchmaking system, the cancellation of the facial adjustment for Sang Qi, multiple re-optimizations of skin effects, and so on. Overall, Honor of Kings has indeed been relatively receptive to player feedback and has actively worked on improvements. This is likely why, nearly 11 years after its release, it still has so many players supporting and loving it~
