At the beginning of the new LPL season, many teams were labeled "Galactic Battleships," but as the season went on, many of these teams have declined. LNG and JDG stand out as the most unfortunate among them. Despite coach Zhu Kai's revelation that these two teams were among the top three in transfer spending, their results this season have been poor. Particularly, LNG suffered consecutive losses in the Resurrection Group against teams like NIP, UP, and EDG, which caused them to miss even the Knight’s Path qualifier.
After LNG missed the Knight’s Path, they became the first "Galactic Battleship" in the LPL this season to fail to qualify for the World Championship. JDG is currently in a similar situation. While LNG lost consecutively in the Resurrection Group, JDG has been on a losing streak in the Peak Group. Especially after JDG was heavily defeated by AL, serious internal conflicts have surfaced. According to JDG’s jungler XUN, mid laner Scout and AD carry Pzi did not take the team bus back to the base after the match; instead, they left separately by train and plane.
After JDG’s two star carries parted ways, many LPL viewers speculated that AD carry Pzi might have grown frustrated with Scout’s poor performance, as Scout was consistently the weakest link in every match. If JDG continues on this path, they could become the second "Galactic Battleship" to miss the World Championship. (JDG performed poorly in the first and second stages, so they must finish in the top four in the third stage playoffs to qualify for the play-in tournament).
Since the "debt collection" incident with EDG, Scout has appeared to give up in every match. Whether in lane or team fights, his performance has been lackluster, causing many JDG fans to hope the organization would release him. Zhu Kai also believes Scout’s poor attitude has seriously affected the team’s atmosphere. Ultimately, Zhu Kai suggested to JDG’s owner that the team has only two options: either hope Scout regains his form or buy a new mid laner.
Former IG jungler JIEJIE has been highly anticipated by fans for a triumphant return since leaving IG. However, many were disappointed when JIEJIE did not join BLG but instead signed with FPX, the weakest team in the LPL Peak Group. JIEJIE’s first comeback match was against BLG, and many fans hoped he could lead FPX to an upset victory, recalling FPX’s previous surprise win over IG.
However, with BLG comfortably defeating FPX 2-0, many JIEJIE fans began to miss IG’s three-star core. FPX’s mid laner and bottom lane have shown extremely limited skill ceilings. Mid laner Yang Jie had no lane priority against BLG’s Left Hand, often dying twice for every one kill he got. Meanwhile, FPX’s bottom laner Jiaqi was dominated by ELK in this BO3, dying four times within ten minutes in the first game while playing Varus. This led many LPL viewers to question whether FPX currently has the ability to beat the Resurrection Group leader NIP.
Although JIEJIE did not lead FPX to a victory over BLG, I feel that FPX’s strength has improved significantly compared to before. As long as they can maintain an even fight with BLG in the mid-game, and if JIEJIE can better synchronize with FPX’s players, they might even have a chance to defeat the Resurrection Group’s top team NIP. (What do you think — can FPX make it to the playoffs in the future?)
