WE staged a storyline almost identical to the second stage
WE finished fourth in the second stage, which is quite an impressive result. At the beginning of the season, hardly anyone believed in this team that had signed two new Korean players, recruited the former support Cube as a top laner, and brought in two new junglers and support from the former EDG. As a result, they finished sixth in the regular season of the second stage and reached the semifinals by eliminating JDG and TES. Compared to the teams they eliminated, the total worth of WE's players might not even match that of one or two star players among them.
Of course, many still feel that WE's performance in the second stage had an element of luck. After entering the second stage, their performance indeed varied greatly, but aside from feeling that the Dark King was perfectly countered by Theshy, WE could hold their own against any other strong team, with a very high rate of going the full distance in Bo3 matches. They started the second stage with a 0-6 record, and in the third stage, they began with 0-5. Today, they finally secured their first victory against FPX.
FPX changes jungler
Like many teams eliminated in the second stage looking for jobs in other squads, FPX, which briefly acquired milkyway from RNG, has once again recruited him as their starting jungler. However, against WE, FPX did not show any significant difference due to the jungler change. Although their surprising 2-0 victory over IG shocked many, FPX's performance wasn't much different from WE's.
WE defeats FPX 2-1
In a closely contested three-game series, WE emerged victorious. This marks their first win after a five-game losing streak to start the third stage. FPX was also one of the teams affected during the transfer period, as their jungler Shadow moved to BLG. Whether it's the newcomer iyy or milkyway, neither seems able to act as the team's glue like Shadow did.
Dragon team fight collapses
FPX's laning phase is still decent, but constantly changing junglers isn't beneficial for team cohesion. Newcomers often rely on brute force in team fights, lacking experience in positioning and strategy. Losing a crucial team fight can lead to a complete rout.
WE secures their first victory
WE, much like in the second stage, achieved their first victory amidst a high losing streak. But can they really pull off another underdog comeback this time? Previously, many teams hardly studied WE, unaware of how formidable their Jhin was and the depth of their mid-lane champion pool. Although the jungler can be impulsive, he does have solid skills in crucial matches. The only concern is the top laner facing a powerful opponent, which often leads to a monster being nurtured.
While WE shouldn't be underestimated, among the top eight teams, aside from losing five and winning against the weakest one, their final score in this first round is bound to look poor. Expecting a clean sweep in the second round seems like a pipe dream. Therefore, compared to the miraculous underdog journey of the second stage, it will be quite challenging for them to pull off another comeback in the third stage.
