Duong Quoc Hoang and his teammates from Team Asia started their journey to defend the Reyes Cup 2025 title impressively by defeating Team Rest of the World (ROW) 4-0 on the first day of competition.
The tournament – regarded as the Asian version of the famous Mosconi Cup – is played in a "race to 11" format, where the first team to reach 11 wins is crowned champion. In front of the home crowd, the Asian players performed confidently, consistently, and showed the composure of reigning champions.
The winning streak began with Carlo Biado, the current world champion. He capitalized on Francisco Sanchez Ruiz’s mistake on the 8-ball in the first rack to secure a 5-1 victory in the opening doubles match. Biado then maintained his impressive form by beating Moritz Neuhausen (Germany) 5-3 in singles, despite struggling at times with three missed break shots. The Filipino cueist finished the match with a stunning 1–9 combo, solidifying the team's advantage.
The first three wins came without much difficulty
In the next doubles match, Aloysius Yapp and AJ Manas extended the winning streak by defeating the pair Sanchez Ruiz – Jayson Shaw 5-2. Although Yapp – MVP of Reyes Cup 2024 – had some inaccurate shots, Shaw made an error on the 8-ball, allowing the Asian representatives to capitalize and clear the table.
The highlight of the day came in the final match, when Duong Quoc Hoang and Johann Chua narrowly defeated the American duo Fedor Gorst – Skylar Woodward 5-4, concluding a perfect debut for Team Asia.
