Vietnam’s number one billiards pool player Duong Quoc Hoang shined at Reyes Cup 2025, contributing to the Asian team’s championship victory.
The Asian team continued their dominance at Reyes Cup by securing a commanding 11-3 victory over the World team in the final on Sunday at Ninoy Aquino Arena.
The 18-year-old cueist AJ Manas made a strong impression on the Filipino crowd when, alongside world champion Carlo Biado, he defeated the pair Fedor Gorst – Moritz Neuhausen 5-2. This win allowed Francisco "Django" Bustamante’s team to successfully defend the title named after the legendary Efren "Bata" Reyes, while Manas was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (Cuetec MVP).
Duong Quoc Hoang and the Asian team claimed the Reyes Cup 2025 championship
In the deciding frame, Manas performed an impressive jump shot and a precise long-distance shot, setting up Biado to pocket the 9-ball and secure the overall victory. Earlier, Aloysius Yapp brought the Asian team closer to the championship by defeating Jayson Shaw 5-1 in singles, leading 4-0 thanks to an impressive 2–9 combo.
Although the World team fought back with Shaw and Skyler Woodward beating the Yapp – Duong Quoc Hoang pair 5-2, along with Francisco Sanchez Ruiz’s 5-3 victory over Johann Chua, the gap was too large. Asia ended the tournament 11-3, retaining the Reyes Cup title for the second consecutive year.
Site ONE Sports from the Philippines praised Duong Quoc Hoang and the Asian team: "Invincible. Steadfast. Unrivaled. Asia continues to stand at the top of the world, once again claiming the crown by showcasing dominant performance and superb billiards skills, winning the Reyes Cup two years running in an exciting display!"
Earlier, Duong Quoc Hoang decisively defeated Skylar Woodward (USA) 5-1 in a singles match on the third day, October 18, earning the Asian team their eighth point against the World team at Reyes Cup 2025. In this match, Duong Quoc Hoang attracted attention by wearing a traditional conical hat.
Reyes Cup 2025 used a Ryder Cup-style format: the first team to reach 11 points wins, each match won by 5 racks earns one point, players alternate turns and doubles pairs cannot be repeated.
Reyes Cup 2025 took place from October 16-19 in Manila, Philippines, to honor the legend Efren Reyes. This year, Francisco "Django" Bustamante replaced Reyes as Asian team captain, leading Johann Chua, Carlo Biado, Aloysius Yapp, AJ Manas, and Duong Quoc Hoang. The World team, led by Jeremy Jones, consisted of Fedor Gorst, Jayson Shaw, Moritz Neuhausen, Skylar Woodward, and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz.
Last year, Duong Quoc Hoang lifted the Reyes Cup for the first time after the Asian team defeated the European team.
