Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has provided significant advice to his former club following their opening-round defeat to Arsenal.
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has urged the club to remain patient with coach Ruben Amorim, stating that constant managerial changes will not solve the ongoing issues at the club. Evra also expressed his belief that his old team will bounce back strongly in the 2025-26 season and could surprise many, even though MU began the new campaign with a home loss to Arsenal.
In an interview with Stake.com, Evra shared: “With MU, you never know what to expect. One day they make you dream, the next day they break your heart. But if they can regain their fighting spirit, when players are ready to shed blood for the shirt, they could pull off surprises. The key is consistency, not just Instagram moments. Football is like a jungle. When results don’t go your way, the coach is always the first to be blamed. But if you keep changing chefs, the soup will never taste right. Give him time, though at MU, time is a very precious commodity.”
After a disastrous 2024-25 season, where the Red Devils finished only 15th in the Premier League and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, coach Amorim made significant signings in the summer transfer window to strengthen the squad.
In particular, the Portuguese manager focused on improving the attack by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and adding the talented Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
Although Amorim brought in Patrick Dorgu during last winter’s transfer window, this past summer was truly his first real chance to reshape the team. Now, as Evra points out, Amorim requires time to implement his tactical system, and he believes that changing managers won’t fix MU’s problems.
The Red Devils will aim to bounce back from their loss to Arsenal and look for their first win of the new season when they face Fulham away on August 24.
