Parting ways with his agent, the future of Barcelona’s key player is about to be decided.

Frenkie de Jong, a central figure at Barcelona, is on the verge of clarifying his future following his separation from representative Ali Dursun.

Barcelona might entrust Frenkie de Jong with the captain’s armband in several matches this season, especially if Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the current captain, is unavailable. However, de Jong’s contract has less than a year remaining, and Barcelona must work hard to secure an extension before January, even if he chooses to leave afterward.

The relationship between de Jong and Barcelona appears to have improved after a prolonged dispute over unpaid wages and his potential departure. The Dutch midfielder revealed during the pre-season tour that he intended to renew his contract with Barcelona, but the process seemed delayed due to issues involving his agent Ali Dursun, who has represented de Jong since his teenage years.

De Jong decided to leave Dursun to facilitate smoother contract extension talks with Barcelona, after several disagreements in the past. However, as de Jong tried to separate from Dursun, who is contracted with him until the end of the year, he faced difficulties, leaving Barcelona without anyone to negotiate with.

Nevertheless, according to MD, de Jong has resolved this issue and his new agent has contacted Barcelona to express the desire to extend his contract. Barcelona will attempt to finalize the departures of Inaki Pena, Oriol Romeu, and Hector Fort before negotiating a new deal with de Jong. The club aims to sign the Dutch midfielder to a new three-year contract.

Reportedly, the new contract for de Jong will include a reduced salary, helping Barcelona address salary cap problems and register players like Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin, and Roony Bardghji, similar to the situation with Jules Kounde.

Since the beginning of this year, de Jong’s career at Barcelona has taken a significant turn, with him delivering one of his best seasons at the club. Coach Hansi Flick views de Jong as a vital part of the midfield, and now he is no longer the subject of constant speculation and questions.
