After completing his ban, Van Viet is expected to make his first appearance for Viettel FC in round two.
Van Viet is one of the most anticipated signings for Viettel FC in the recent transfer window. The Vietnam national team goalkeeper joined Viettel on a two-year loan from SLNA. This is a great opportunity for him to showcase his skills and compete for club-level titles.
However, upon moving to Viettel, Van Viet had to miss the opening match of the season. Specifically, the national team goalkeeper was sidelined due to a suspension stemming from a red card he received in round 25 of last season’s V-League while playing for SLNA against HAGL.
With that direct red card, Van Viet was suspended for two matches—one in round 26 of last year’s V-League, and although he transferred from SLNA to Viettel, his ban remained in effect. Van Viet will have to sit out one more match in round one of the 2025/2026 V-League. However, starting from round two, he will be eligible to play again.
It is expected that coach Popov will trust Van Viet to start in goal for Viettel in the second round of the V-League, replacing goalkeeper Pham Van Phong. Previously, Van Phong had performed solidly in the 1-1 draw against CAHN in the opening round. Nevertheless, Viettel will surely need Van Viet’s outstanding saves when facing Cong an TP HCM in round two.
After parting ways with Nguyen Manh, Viettel has been searching for a quality goalkeeper. Van Viet is a young, promising shot-stopper who has regularly been called up to the Vietnam national team under coach Kim Sang Sik. Now that his suspension is over, Van Viet is expected to become Viettel’s first-choice goalkeeper this season.
Van Viet played in 25 out of 26 matches in the last V-League season and appeared in four National Cup games. Born in 2002, the goalkeeper was instrumental in helping SLNA avoid relegation and finish runners-up in the National Cup. SLNA’s successful survival in recent years owes much to Van Viet’s exceptional goalkeeping.
