The Vietnam national team is set for closed friendly matches against Nam Dinh FC and CAHN during the September FIFA Days period.
Vietnam will not have any official friendly matches during the September FIFA Days. Previously, the "Golden Dragons" received an invitation to Thailand's King's Cup but declined. Coach Kim Sang Sik and VFF want to focus fully on the 2026 AFC U23 qualifiers, which also take place in September.
Initially, it was reported that the Vietnam national team would not gather in September. However, according to Thanh Nien, Quang Hai and his teammates will still regroup during the upcoming FIFA Days, even without international matches. During the training camp from August 29 to September 10, Vietnam will play two friendlies with V-League clubs.
The two confirmed opponents for Vietnam's friendlies are CAHN and Thep Xanh Nam Dinh. This makes sense, as during the V-League break for September's FIFA Days, clubs are eager to play friendlies to help players maintain match sharpness.
Moreover, these are the two Vietnamese teams participating in international competitions: the Southeast Asian Club Cup and the AFC Cup. This gives their foreign players a chance to maintain playing intensity ahead of further matches in both tournaments. With their full foreign squads, CAHN and Nam Dinh are comparable to international teams.
Thus, if these two matches go ahead, it will be a great opportunity for Vietnam to test themselves against quality foreign players from Nam Dinh and CAHN. The most anticipated clash will be Kyle Hudlin, the 2.06m tall striker from Nam Dinh, facing Vietnam's defenders.
Previously, in October 2024, Vietnam also played an internal match with Nam Dinh FC before facing India. At that time, Xuan Son had just completed naturalization and was still playing for Nam Dinh. In the end, Vietnam won 3-2 against Nam Dinh FC.
