CAHN extends the disappointing streak of Vietnamese teams in Thailand.

The hope of ending the “jinx” for Vietnamese teams at BG Pathum Stadium faded away when CAHN conceded a 2-1 defeat to the home side BG Pathum United in the final moments of the match.

Before the game, experts and fans placed high expectations on CAHN—currently one of the most ambitious clubs in the V.League—to achieve a positive result in their opening match of the 2025/26 Southeast Asian Club Cup.

It seemed as though CAHN would secure an easy win after Matheus received a red card.

Confidence grew even stronger as CAHN started energetically, with Alan opening the score in the first half, and the situation improved further when Matheus from the home team was sent off late in the first half for a dangerous high-foot challenge on Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh.

It appeared that CAHN was on the verge of making history, but tragedy struck again. Chanathip Songkrasin was brought on at the start of the second half, equalized 1-1, and then completed his brace with a stunning long-range goal in stoppage time, crushing the hopes of the Vietnamese side. This was a bitter loss, as CAHN had the lead, a numerical advantage, and created many chances, but still failed to secure the win.

Statistics indicate that before facing CAHN, Vietnamese teams had traveled to Pathum Thani Stadium three times but never claimed a victory, suffering two defeats and earning just one draw. Specifically, Viettel lost 0-2 and 1-3 to BG Pathum in the 2021 AFC Champions League, while Đông Á Thanh Hóa managed only a 1-1 draw in January 2025 during last season’s Southeast Asian Club Cup. As a result, there was significant pressure on CAHN before the match, but it also served as motivation for the capital club to try to rewrite history.

However, after conceding a heartbreaking goal in the final seconds of stoppage time, CAHN further prolonged Vietnamese football’s misfortunes at BG Pathum Stadium. This serves as a wake-up call for coach Mano Polking and his squad, as the journey to conquer the 2025/26 Southeast Asian Club Cup will be full of obstacles and even greater challenges ahead.
