Fans have been anxiously waiting for this deal all summer, and Arsenal’s rapid action to snatch the player from their North London nemesis Tottenham in just half a day has greatly boosted morale among supporters and the team.
The latest report from Italian transfer specialist Romano states that Arsenal has reached an agreement to sign the 27-year-old attacking midfielder from Crystal Palace, with the transfer fee surpassing £60 million and his market value set at €55 million.
Romano reports that all parties have reached a verbal agreement: Crystal Palace will receive over £60 million for Eze’s transfer, and Eze himself prefers joining Arsenal over Tottenham. Tottenham made the first move but failed to secure an agreement after several days of negotiations; Arsenal then stepped in and sealed the deal within one afternoon on August 20, winning the race for Eze. This is the signing Arsenal fans have most wanted, as Eze can play both left winger and attacking midfielder. Whether replacing Ødegaard or Martinelli, he strengthens Arsenal’s squad.
Eze came through Arsenal’s academy, so this move is something of a homecoming. He joined Crystal Palace from QPR in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee of €17.8 million, and over five years at Palace has played 169 games, scoring 40 goals and providing 28 assists across all competitions, helping the team win last season’s FA Cup and this season’s Community Shield.
Now 27 years old, Eze stands 1.78 meters tall, is right-footed, and is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, left winger, or left central midfielder. He is contracted with Crystal Palace until 2027, and last season made 43 appearances in all competitions, starting 40 times and playing a total of 3,303 minutes, contributing 14 goals and 11 assists. He’s skilled both in passing and finishing, has excellent technique, and also possesses notable pace.
