In September, both the U23 and senior Vietnamese squads will assemble and practice together.
After the first three rounds, the 2025/2026 V-League will pause to make way for the September FIFA Days training camp. However, unlike previous FIFA Days, this time the focus will be on the U23 team as they prepare for the 2026 AFC U23 qualifiers, while the senior team will step back for their younger counterparts.
Initially, it was reported that the Vietnamese national team would not meet in September because Coach Kim Sang Sik wanted to concentrate solely on the U23 squad. However, according to the latest updates, the “Golden Dragons” will still hold a camp from August 29 to September 10 and play two internal friendlies.
Specifically, during this period, both teams will gather and train together at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. The national team will play two friendly matches against top V-League clubs Nam Dinh and CAHN on September 4 and 7.
Previously, the U22 team was regularly given opportunities by the VFF to train alongside the national team during FIFA Days to gain experience and prepare thoroughly for the 2026 AFC U23 qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games. However, this time, the U23 squad is prioritized over the senior team as opposed to before.
Additionally, it makes perfect sense for the national team to play friendlies with Nam Dinh and CAHN. With the V-League on break for the September FIFA Days, clubs are also eager to play friendlies to help players maintain their match sharpness.
Moreover, these two Vietnamese clubs are participating in international competitions: the Southeast Asian Club Cup and the AFC Cup. This will give their foreign players a chance to keep up their playing rhythm before their next international fixtures. If CAHN and Nam Dinh field their full squads, including foreign players, they will be comparable to international teams.
