WTT Sweden Grand Slam August 22 Schedule: Chinese Team Aims to Sweep Women’s Singles Semifinals; Sha and Wang Manyu Face Ito and Hashimoto

On August 22 Beijing time, the WTT Sweden Grand Slam continues. According to the latest schedule, the women's singles quarterfinals will take place today, featuring three intense China-Japan matchups. Four Chinese players are striving to secure all four semifinal spots. The matches include Sun Yingsha vs. Mima Ito, Chen Yi vs. Winter, Shi Xunyao vs. Satsuki Oto, and Wang Manyu vs. Honoka Hashimoto, starting at 6 PM!

The Chinese team entered nine players in this women’s singles event. After three grueling rounds, five have been eliminated, leaving only four players, each guarding a different quarter. This sets up a strong possibility for China to claim all four semifinal positions, with three thrilling China-Japan battles ready to ignite the arena. Now, let's look at the specific matchups!

The first match is Sun Yingsha vs. Mima Ito. Sun, currently world No.1, can occasionally lose domestically but is very consistent internationally. Facing Ito in the quarterfinals, whose form has recently improved, Sun is still on another level. She has already beaten Ito ten times consecutively, showing clear dominance. Therefore, it’s expected that Sun will comfortably win and advance to the semifinals—likely the most assured victory of the day!

The second match features Chen Yi vs. Winter. Chen shone at the US Grand Slam, winning the internal competition but finishing runner-up overall—a personal best. She has earned continuous entry into tournaments. In the round of 16, Chen battled hard to a 3-2 win over Bruna. Now in the quarterfinals, she faces the 32-year-old German veteran Winter, who caused an upset by eliminating Chen Xingtong earlier. Winter is a tough opponent, so Chen must prepare for a fierce fight and beware of another upset!

The third match pits Shi Xunyao against Satsuki Oto. Shi has performed well in this event, defeating Kuai Man in the round of 16 to reach the quarterfinals. She now faces Oto, who knocked out Zhu Yuling and has improved rapidly. Oto recently even defeated Shi, so this match presents a significant challenge for Shi. It remains uncertain if she can withstand this test!

The fourth match is Wang Manyu versus Honoka Hashimoto. Wang, ranked world No.2, is very consistent internationally. In the round of 16, despite trailing in the score, she showed great composure to narrowly defeat Miyu Nagasaki 3-2 and advance. In the quarterfinals, she will face Hashimoto, who eliminated Qian Tianyi and Wang Yidi. Hashimoto uses a chopping style, making her a tricky opponent. Wang is currently not in top form and will face strong pressure from Hashimoto, so she must take this match very seriously!
