Quang Hải helps CAHN keep pace with Hoàng Đức and Văn Lâm's team

The CAHN captain excelled against Becamex TP.HCM in the latest match of Round 2 held on the evening of August 24 at Bình Dương Stadium. Quang Hải scored one goal and assisted another, helping CAHN earn 3 points and stay close to league leaders Ninh Bình.

Before facing Becamex TP.HCM, CAHN had two matches without victories against Thể Công Viettel and BG Pathum United. It was expected that the tough loss in Thailand would make things hard for Quang Hải and his teammates at Becamex TP.HCM’s home ground (who had just beaten HAGL 3-0 in Round 1), but the opposite occurred.

The CAHN captain assisted Alan to open the scoring with a pass in the 3rd minute. The Brazilian striker maintained his excellent form this season by scoring his fourth consecutive goal for the club.

From then on, CAHN played comfortably even though Becamex TP.HCM fought hard. Coach Anh Đức’s team had a much weaker squad and mostly endured pressure. The red card shown to naturalized foreign player Kizito Trung Hiếu after a foul on Thành Long further worsened the home side’s situation.

In that scenario, it was no surprise that Quang Hải scored his second goal for CAHN following a setup by Artur. Brazilian forward Artur then sealed the 3-0 victory for CAHN on the opponent’s field. Artur relieved his scoring pressure with this goal on August 24, which should act as a catalyst for his upcoming performances.

Coach Alexandre Polking’s squad has 4 points after 2 rounds and remains unbeaten in the V-League. This is a decent result as CAHN drew with Thể Công Viettel in Round 1. Thể Công Viettel also achieved a similar result by defeating Công an TP.HCM 3-0 in Round 2. Both capital city clubs share the same points and goal difference after two matches and are chasing Ninh Bình at the top of the table.

Currently, Ninh Bình leads the two capital football representatives by 2 points. The V-League newcomers have shown extremely impressive form by comfortably beating more experienced teams like Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh and Thanh Hóa. Ninh Bình defeated Thanh Hóa 4-0 in Round 2 and after two matches, Hoàng Đức’s club has scored 7 goals while conceding only 1.

Ninh Bình’s high level of performance makes the rest of the league wary. Coach Gerard Albadalejo’s team has a very skilled lineup. From goalkeeper Văn Lâm to defender Marcelino, midfielders Hoàng Đức, Đức Chiến, Ngọc Quang, and forwards Gustavo, Silva, Geovane Magno, all are notable stars. Ninh Bình’s exclusive hold on first place after two straight wins sends a serious signal for this year’s title race.

Ninh Bình’s rise has caused anxiety among the fans of defending champions Nam Định. After a comeback win against Hải Phòng, Nam Định could not replicate the feat at SLNA’s stadium. Their 1-2 loss in Vinh dropped them to mid-table in the standings.

Given the current situation, Nam Định has reasons to worry about their high goals this season. Although they have many foreign players, they rely heavily on tall striker Kyle Hudlin. Additionally, Nam Định has yet to demonstrate convincing gameplay, even though coach Vũ Hồng Việt’s star players have long played together.

Another contender disappointing after Round 2 is Hà Nội FC. Coach Teguramori has reasons to be disappointed and commented that the draw with HAGL felt like a defeat. At their home ground Hàng Đẫy, HAGL mostly defended, but Hà Nội FC failed to find a way to score despite 19 shots.

Being ranked 11th after Round 2 is unacceptable for a squad aiming for the championship this year. Although the team’s style has been shaped under the Japanese coach, Hà Nội FC’s lineup is still not superior to CAHN or Ninh Bình. Returning to the throne will be very difficult for bầu Hiển’s club.

Round 2 also saw the unraveling of the surprises from Round 1. Công an TP.HCM lost 3-0 to title contender Thể Công Viettel in their first away match of the new season. Tiến Linh and his teammates are unlikely to reach the top 3 with their current level.

PVF CAND, who won against SLNA in Round 1, was also defeated by Hải Phòng at Lạch Tray. However, coach Thạch Bảo Khanh’s team has reasons to regret as they led before Mpande’s red card allowed Hải Phòng to come back and win 3-1. Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh caused SHB Đà Nẵng to worry about relegation early by beating the home team 1-0 at Hòa Xuân.

Results of Round 2 V-League 2025/26:

Thể Công Viettel – Công an TP.HCM: 3-0

SLNA – Nam Định: 2-1

Hà Nội FC – HAGL: 0-0

Ninh Bình FC – Thanh Hóa: 4-0

SHB Đà Nẵng – Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh: 0-1

Hải Phòng – PVF CAND: 3-1

Becamex TP.HCM – CAHN: 0-3
