The first manager in the Premier League is about to be dismissed

Graham Potter’s West Ham has had a disastrous start to the season and now faces the threat of falling into crisis.

Potter’s position at West Ham remains temporarily secure, but the former Brighton coach must quickly turn things around or risk losing his job at London Stadium soon.

The “Hammers” poor start continued as they were crushed 5-1 by Chelsea in the early hours of September 23. Despite scoring an early opener, West Ham was soon overwhelmed by their opponents, causing most fans to leave the stadium with 10 minutes still left in the match.

Potter has been in charge for less than a year, taking over from Julen Lopetegui last January. However, West Ham quickly became relegation candidates after conceding 8 goals in just the first 2 rounds. They started with a 0-3 loss to newly promoted Sunderland. Pressure mounts on Potter as he has only achieved 5 wins since taking charge, with a winning rate barely above 23%.

According to the Daily Mail, Potter will remain in charge for the next two matches against Wolves in the League Cup and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. However, further disappointing results could force the management to take decisive action.

After the loss to Chelsea, Potter admitted: “I am extremely disappointed with the result. We started well and scored a beautiful goal but conceded too easily, which shaped the entire game. Against a strong team, the way we defended made everything impossible. We must improve, lift our spirits, and prepare for Wolves. We have to keep fighting.”

This past summer was also challenging for Potter as key attacking star Mohamed Kudus moved to Tottenham. Their biggest signing was defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who had been on loan at West Ham last season.

When asked about strengthening the squad before the transfer window closes, Potter declined to reveal details, emphasizing the urgent task of improving the defense: “We are always looking for opportunities, but more importantly, we need to make it harder for opponents to score.”

Since promotion via the 2012 playoffs, West Ham has never been relegated from the Premier League. Just two seasons ago, they lifted the Europa Conference League trophy, but now the club struggles to maintain its established status.
