Vietnam national team faces risk of losing naturalized star ahead of squad assembly

Cao Pendant Quang Vinh - the recently naturalized Vietnamese defender currently playing for Hanoi Police, is likely to miss the Vietnam national team’s September 2025 training camp due to injury issues and insufficient fitness.

Previously, Quang Vinh only managed to play 53 minutes in the Super Cup match before leaving the field due to injury, and subsequently was unable to participate in the opening match of the Southeast Asian Club Cup. against BG Pathum United. In the V.League, he appeared in two matches against Viettel Army and Becamex TP.HCM, but his performance was not fully satisfactory.

Quang Vinh’s possible absence will not significantly affect coach Kim Sang-sik’s preparation plans. This training period does not include any Asian Cup qualifiers or international friendlies. Since officially becoming a Vietnamese citizen in early 2025, Quang Vinh has been expected to be a valuable addition to the defense. He debuted for the national team in the match against Malaysia during the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, and despite the heavy defeat, he left a positive impression. With solid defensive skills, good physique, and experience playing in Europe, Quang Vinh quickly became a promising prospect for the flank.

His transfer value was once estimated at up to 900,000 Euros in 2020, before recently dropping to 500,000 Euros. Nevertheless, Quang Vinh remains one of the highly regarded players in terms of skill. His potential absence in September may disappoint fans, but it also presents an opportunity for the coaching staff to give chances to young or new players who have yet to represent the national team.
