Ninh Binh Club confirms that overseas Vietnamese player Chung Nguyen has been summoned to the Vietnam U23 squad for the upcoming September call-up.
The official fanpage of Ninh Binh Club announced that the overseas Vietnamese midfielder Tran Thanh Trung (Chung Nguyen Do) has been called up to the Vietnam U23 team. He will join his teammates in preparation for the 2026 U23 Asian Championship qualifiers, scheduled from September 3 to 9.
Alongside striker Nguyen Quoc Viet, coach Kim Sang Sik has just called midfielder Tran Thanh Trung (Chung Nguyen Do) from Ninh Binh FC to the Vietnam U23 national team. Previously, the coach attended the match between Ninh Binh FC and Dong A Thanh Hoa in the second round of the 2025/26 V.League, where Tran Thanh Trung played from the second half.
As previously reported, FIFA has updated the change of association for overseas Vietnamese player Chung Nguyen Do. Accordingly, FIFA has approved the player's eligibility to represent all levels of Vietnam’s national teams through their system.Change of Associationon August 6, 2025.
Born in 2005, Chung Nguyen Do stands 1.75m tall, currently playing as a starter for Slavia Sofia and part of Bulgaria’s U19 and U21 squads. For the 2025/26 season, he decided to return to Vietnam to play for the prominent V-League club Ninh Binh. Having been accustomed to Bulgaria’s cooler climate, he is facing some challenges adapting back to Vietnam.
Despite coming off the bench in the two V-League matches so far, Chung Nguyen Do has performed well. His ability to control the game tempo, tactical awareness, and passing skills have been highly rated.
Being called up to the Vietnam U23 team shortly after returning home shows coach Kim Sang Sik holds Chung Nguyen Do's talent in high regard. However, the midfielder still faces competition from other midfield stars like Thai Son, Xuan Bac, and Cong Phuong to secure a spot in the official squad for the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and potentially a starting position.
