Juventus wins Serie A opener: Tudor’s pleasant dilemma

Juventus started the new season with an important 2-0 victory over Parma, a debut that brought many encouraging signs.

The authoritative return of the "pillar" Gleison Bremer, the debut goal from newcomer Jonathan David, and Dusan Vlahovic’s strike secured all three points.

Bremer’s "infinite" value

After 326 days sidelined due to a knee injury, Gleison Bremer’s comeback was as significant as a blockbuster signing for Juventus’ defense. He immediately proved his importance again, leading the defense and directly neutralizing Parma’s biggest threat, Mateo Pellegrino. The highlight was a goal-line tackle early in the second half, a moment coach Igor Tudor admitted "led us to victory."

That outstanding performance earned Bremer the second-highest rating in the match from Gazzetta dello Sport, just behind young midfielder Kenan Yildiz, who shone with two assists. Bremer’s return brought the stability and leadership Juventus had lacked for nearly a year.

The affirmation of the "number 9s"

If Bremer was the hero in defense, the forwards also made their mark. New signing David impressed in his debut by opening the scoring in the 59th minute with a close-range finish. This goal will surely relieve much pressure on the Canadian striker.

Tudor has every reason to be satisfied with the opening victory

However, Vlahovic made an even stronger impression. Replacing David in the 80th minute amid familiar jeers from some fans, the Serbian striker took only four minutes to score the final 2-0 goal. Notably, this goal came just one minute after Juventus was reduced to ten men due to Andrea Cambiaso’s red card, underscoring the great significance of a victory achieved when the team needed it most.

Vlahovic’s consistent scoring form, continuing from the preseason (4 goals in 5 matches) to his first official game, strongly confirms he fully deserves a place in Tudor’s plans instead of being viewed as a burden to offload.

A pleasant headache

Yet Juventus has not abandoned plans to sign Randal Kolo Muani from PSG. Agreements are reportedly nearly complete, and the club is still striving to bring the French striker back to Turin in the final days of the transfer window. To make way for Kolo Muani, they will likely still need to solve the "Vlahovic puzzle."

When asked who he would choose between Vlahovic and Kolo Muani, Tudor said: "I don’t know what will happen, I accept everything, but the management has the final say." This means he is ready to keep working with Vlahovic with growing confidence. Vlahovic’s professional quality (consistent scoring) and his willingness to accept a backup role make Tudor very comfortable.

Juventus still wants to sell the Serbian striker to avoid losing him for free in summer 2026, but this is becoming increasingly difficult. Both Milan and Napoli, two big clubs lacking forwards, have lost interest due to wage barriers. Napoli is focused on signing Rasmus Hojlund, while Milan is close to acquiring Conrad Harder, the 20-year-old striker from Sporting Lisbon.

But that’s a matter for the management; Tudor can now rest peacefully after a very positive season opener, where those expected to shine did so as hoped. Much pressure has been relieved, and it’s time to confidently look ahead.

Genius Nico Paz

Como continues to rise under Cesc Fabregas’ leadership. This "small but mighty" team convincingly beat Lazio 2-0 in the season opener, with attacking midfielder Nico Paz making a strong impression. After assisting the opening goal, the 21-year-old star sealed Como’s well-deserved win with a left-footed free kick reminiscent of Lionel Messi. The ball curved over the wall and into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Ivan Provedel fully stretched but unable to save it.

However, the better Paz performs, the more concerned Como becomes. Tottenham is ready to make a big offer to take him away from Italy. Can Fabregas keep hold of his precious talent?
