Marcus Thuram scored twice as Inter Milan crushed Torino in Serie A

In the early hours of August 26, Inter Milan started the 2025-2026 Serie A season impressively by defeating Torino 5-0 at Giuseppe Meazza, sending a clear message to their Scudetto rivals.

In this match, Inter were without Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Pio Esposito due to suspension. Carlos Augusto and Davide Frattesi were not fully fit, while Kristjan Asllani had just finalized his transfer to Torino that day. Summer signing Petar Sucic was the only new starter, which pushed Nicolò Barella into a more creative role.

As for Torino, they had just overcome Modena 1-0 in the Coppa Italia last week but were still missing Ardian Ismajli, Perr Schuurs, and Zanos Savva due to injuries. The coach immediately included the three new signings Franco Israel, Giovanni Simeone, and Cyril Ngonge in the starting lineup.

Alessandro Bastoni kicked off Inter’s goal fest with a powerful header in the 17th minute from a corner. The excitement continued as Marcus Thuram doubled the lead with a precise shot in the 35th minute, then shined again in the second half to complete his brace, increasing the score to 4-0 in the 63rd minute.

Captain Lautaro Martínez also made an impact by punishing a defensive mistake from Torino early in the second half, helping Inter lead 3-0 and almost deciding the match. The celebrations ended with a goal from young talent Ange-Yoan Bonny in the 78th minute, following another defensive error from the visitors.

This resounding victory not only confirmed Inter’s ambition to return to the title race but also held special meaning for new coach Christian Chivu. The Romanian manager, who faced much doubt since taking over, delivered a dominant display against Torino for a flawless debut.

For Nerazzurri fans, this was an important morale boost after a disappointing 2024/25 season, when Inter lost the Scudetto to Napoli and suffered a heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
