Striker Erling Haaland is said to have decided to change the name on his shirt while playing for Norway’s national team.
According to reports from Daily Mail, Erling Haaland has chosen to modify the name on his match jersey as he represents Norway in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Specifically, the star born in 2000 will add his middle name to the number 9 shirt, making the name read “Braut Haaland”. Fans will see this change when Norway plays two friendlies against Finland on September 4, before facing Moldova in a World Cup qualifying match on September 9.
Currently, Haaland and his teammates lead Group I with a perfect 12 points from four matches, placing them at the top and giving them a strong chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The reason behind Haaland’s name change is unclear, but one thing remains constant: his impressive goal-scoring form. Despite a recent defeat to Tottenham in the second round of the Premier League, Haaland made an impact on opening day by scoring twice in Manchester City’s victory over Wolves.
This demonstrates that the Norwegian striker is ready to compete for the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2025/26 season, as well as pursuing further achievements with his club at the Etihad Stadium.
Since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for a fee of 60 million Euros, Haaland has immediately proven himself indispensable under coach Pep Guardiola. The Norwegian forward has scored a total of 126 goals and provided 21 assists in 148 appearances across all competitions, helping City win 2 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 1 Community Shield, and notably the 2022/23 Champions League.
On a personal level, his outstanding performances for Manchester City have earned him prestigious individual awards, including the Premier League Player of the Season and Golden Boot for 2022/23, as well as the FIFA The Best 2023 award.
Currently, Haaland remains under contract with Manchester City until June 2034, having agreed to an extension earlier this year.
