Vietnam National Team welcomes a new coach

Following interim head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh, the Vietnam National Team has added another coach to the coaching staff.

As previously reported, both the Vietnam National Team and U23 Vietnam will gather in September with different objectives. The U23 team is prioritized as they participate in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, while the senior team will not play official friendlies but will hold internal training matches against Nam Định and CAHN clubs.

Therefore, coach Kim Sang Sik will focus on leading the U23 Vietnam in this important tournament, while the Vietnam National Team is entrusted to interim head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh. According to Bongdaplus, to support Đinh Hồng Vinh in his role, the team will add another local assistant coach.

Specifically, coach Nguyễn Thành Công will join the Vietnam National Team’s coaching staff this September as a technical assistant to interim head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh. This marks the first time in his career that Nguyễn Thành Công has been part of the national team’s coaching staff.

Having helped Hà Tĩnh perform impressively last V-League season by finishing 5th despite a modest squad, coach Nguyễn Thành Công unexpectedly parted ways with the team. After leaving Hà Tĩnh, the 48-year-old strategist attended an AFC coaching course to earn his Pro license.

After departing Hà Tĩnh, Nguyễn Thành Công received several offers from V-League and First Division clubs but declined them all. His first involvement in coaching at the national team level will help him gain valuable experience before returning to club management.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam National Team and U23 Vietnam must share coaching resources for two different missions. Priority remains with U23 Vietnam, and adding an experienced coach like Nguyễn Thành Công is entirely reasonable. The senior team will also have two more assistants joining in September: fitness coach Cedric Roger and goalkeeper coach Nguyễn Thế Anh.
