Manchester United has reached a personal agreement with Emiliano Martínez, the goalkeeper, who is set to make a last-minute choice between two options! Jadon Sancho might be involved in a swap loan deal with Aston Villa.

Ahead of the summer window’s closure on Monday, Manchester United is in talks to acquire a new goalkeeper, with Aston Villa’s Argentine international Emiliano Martínez again considered a candidate. Additionally, Senna Miangue from Belgium’s Antwerp is also in the running. One of these two may become the Red Devils’ final signing on September 1.

Following Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Burnley on Saturday, head coach Amolin was asked about the goalkeeper position and replied, “They are human as well. Regarding the repeated mistakes by Manchester United’s goalkeeper, Amolin responded, “If we analyze the goal conceded by Bain-deel, we could have defended better inside the box. A similar goal happened against Fulham because we didn’t complete the defensive rotation when the ball was on the other side. Although publicly defending the goalkeeper’s errors, Amolin has not hesitated to act by bringing in a new goalkeeper. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the 32-year-old Martínez has agreed on personal terms with Manchester United. “Manchester United has reached a personal agreement with Martínez and has contacted Villa. Since the deal for Miangue might not go through, Martínez has become one of the options again. Negotiations are currently ongoing.”

Romano further explained that on Sunday morning, Manchester United began negotiations with Villa to purchase Martínez. Previously, the Red Devils made an offer to Antwerp for Miangue, but it did not materialize. Antwerp demanded a fixed transfer fee of at least €25 million, while Manchester United’s bid was €17 million fixed plus two conditional payments of €2 million and €3 million. The transfer fee remains unresolved.

Romano stated, “Let’s wait and see whether Manchester United decides to proceed with Martínez’s transfer or hold out for Miangue. At the moment, my feeling leans towards the former. Martínez wants to join Manchester United and has agreed on personal terms. If Martínez is not on the pitch for Villa’s match tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Martínez indeed did not participate in Villa’s heavy defeat to Crystal Palace. When coach Emery was asked about the Argentine goalkeeper’s whereabouts, he only mentioned “Bizzot,” referring to backup goalkeeper Matías Bizzot, who started the game.

Regarding Martínez’s omission, Emery said, “We need players who are focused, one hundred percent. He is not. This doesn’t help us; it’s part of the current situation. Martínez also received offers from the Saudi Professional League this summer but chose to stay in Europe, with Manchester United as his first choice. During negotiations, Villa inquired about 25-year-old English winger Jadon Sancho, suggesting that if United included him as part of the deal, it might reduce Martínez’s transfer fee.

However, the Manchester Evening News reported that Manchester United’s preferred choice remains 23-year-old Miangue, and negotiations with Antwerp are still ongoing. United understands that the Belgian club needs to sell players to repay past debts. But United’s management wants a backup plan: if Miangue cannot be secured on the last day, Martínez will be chosen. Antwerp is under pressure to sell, but they also know Miangue will find a buyer easily; for example, if Martínez joins United, Villa could be a potential buyer for Miangue.

Inside Manchester United, there are two perspectives on signing Miangue or Martínez. Miangue is a rising star with only one full season of senior experience, but he is regarded as a talented shot-stopper with a sharp mind. Martínez, on the other hand, is experienced and has won the World Cup representing Argentina.

Villa also needs to sell players, but in July, Manchester United’s request to loan Martínez was rejected. Martínez’s salary at Villa is also quite high. It is unlikely that United will sign both Martínez and Miangue simultaneously unless Onana or Bain-deel leaves.
