Onana failed, Bayındır failed, so will this one succeed? His market value is just €9 million. Official news confirms Manchester United have secured 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lamens from Antwerp with a contract lasting five years until 2030.
According to previous reports from Romano, Manchester United’s transfer fee for Lamens was €21 million plus variable bonuses.
Lamens came through the youth system of Belgian powerhouse Club Brugge, then joined Antwerp on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. So far, he has played 64 matches across all competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets and conceding 86 goals, averaging 1.34 goals against per game.
Lamens is currently 23 years old, stands 1.93 meters tall, is a right-footed goalkeeper, and has a market value of €9 million according to Transfermarkt. Manchester United’s €21 million plus add-ons investment represents a premium signing.
The Premier League is tough, especially for a 23-year-old goalkeeper from the Belgian league. United fans dislike Onana and might put pressure on Lamens, but the physicality of the Premier League is challenging for young keepers! By signing Lamens, United missed out on Big Martin; in terms of immediate impact, Big Martin remains the best choice for United. Nonetheless, we wish Lamens well and hope he adapts quickly to the Premier League. Last season, Lamens conceded 56 goals in 44 games for Antwerp with only 10 clean sheets, which would be difficult to replicate in the Premier League.
