The Premier League possesses massive financial strength, and in Serie A, Juventus might be the only club with some spending capacity. Official news confirms Juventus signing the 25-year-old Belgian striker Openda from Leipzig on loan with a triggered mandatory purchase, and he will take the number 20 shirt.
Juventus revealed the transaction specifics: first, a one-year loan of Openda costing €3.3 million, which includes an €800,000 variable bonus clause activated by certain performance benchmarks. The contract also contains a mandatory buy clause triggered upon meeting specific conditions, with a fixed fee of €40.6 million payable over four years, plus an additional €1.7 million in variable bonuses.
Currently 25 years old, Openda stands 1.77 meters tall, is right-footed, and plays as a forward capable of operating as a striker or left winger. Transfermarkt values him at €50 million, higher than Juventus’s loan plus buyout fee, making this a bargain for the club. Last season, Openda appeared 45 times for Leipzig in all competitions, starting 40 matches, totaling 3,506 minutes, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists.
Openda joined Leipzig from Lens in the summer 2023 transfer window for €40 million. Over two years at Leipzig, he has played 93 games in all competitions, scoring 41 goals and assisting 18 times.
In my opinion, Openda’s speed is highly effective in Serie A; as long as he maintains discipline, reaching double-digit goals this season is very achievable. Teams like Inter Milan, with an aging squad, are particularly vulnerable to fast, aggressive forwards like him.
