Liverpool hopes to acquire Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi on the last day of the transfer period. Wayne Rooney was impressed by how the player dealt with rumors surrounding his future.
Currently, Guehi is in the final year of his contract, forcing Crystal Palace to consider selling him to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
In response, Liverpool entered the 2025 summer transfer market hoping to secure Guehi with a £35 million bid. Despite Liverpool’s interest, Guehi continued to play for Crystal Palace and even scored a spectacular long-range goal in their 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on September 1st.
Wayne Rooney was highly impressed by Marc Guehi’s reaction to Liverpool’s transfer pursuit, praising him as an “excellent player.”
Wayne Rooney also offered many compliments to the English player. Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Rooney stated: “He is an outstanding player. He is agile, reads the game intelligently, stays calm, isn’t afraid to make tackles, and handles the ball confidently. I believe Guehi has all the qualities of a modern center-back.”
The former Manchester United captain also emphasized Guehi’s professionalism: “There have been many rumors about Guehi’s future in recent months, but he has always shown up and played for the team. He deserves respect because many players in similar situations would have refused to play. Guehi chose to do the right thing.”
