Facing an 18-month ban due to doping, Paul Pogba decided to relocate his family to Dubai for six months prior to coming back to France and signing a contract with Monaco.
Paul Pogba, the 2018 World Cup champion, recently shared notable insights about his period under suspension for doping violations. The French midfielder revealed that he moved his wife Zulay and their children to Dubai for six months to escape public scrutiny and find personal balance.
Pogba tested positive for a banned substance in September 2023, resulting in a four-year suspension. However, after appealing, his ban was reduced to 18 months, allowing him to return to the field sooner than expected. He admitted: “I lived in Dubai for six months. It was wonderful for my family. The kids were happy, and I truly felt relaxed. I enjoyed that time.”
After being “cleared” in March 2025, Pogba sought a new club for his career. Despite rumors linking him to the US or Saudi Arabia, he chose to sign a two-year contract with AS Monaco during the summer. Still, after nearly two years without official matches, Pogba is working hard to regain his fitness and match sharpness.
The former Manchester United midfielder has appeared in some preseason friendlies, but since the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season began, he has not yet been registered to play. Monaco believes Pogba needs more time to train to reach his best condition.
At 32 years old, Pogba has not given up on his greatest ambition as a player: to wear the French national jersey once again at the 2026 World Cup. “I am eager to come back, contribute, and win. I have never abandoned my World Cup dream,” he emphasized.
Living in Dubai allowed Pogba to take a break after the turmoil but also reignited his desire to prove himself. With his contract at Monaco, Pogba hopes to reclaim the star status that once captivated all of Europe and to end his career gloriously rather than fading away quietly.
