If the Vietnam National Team wins both matches against Nepal in October, they have a strong chance to advance in the FIFA rankings.
On October 9 and 14, the Vietnam National Team will play two crucial matches against Nepal as part of the 2027 Asian Cup third qualifying round. Facing a manageable opponent, Coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad aims to win both games to gain an advantage in the race for the final tournament and to improve their FIFA ranking points.
According to calculations from Football Ranking, winning both matches would add approximately 13.96 points to the "Golden Star Warriors," likely moving them up the rankings. Currently, Vietnam is ranked 114th with 1169.92 points, 62 places above Nepal, who stand at 176th.
Conversely, if they lose or even draw against Nepal, Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team will face significant point deductions: 18.02 points lost per defeat and 5.52 points lost per draw. Although unlikely, this scenario remains possible.
To prepare for these two matches, the Vietnam National Team gathered on October 4 in Ho Chi Minh City for joint training. The team benefits from playing both games at home (Gò Đậu and Bình Dương stadiums), avoiding travel fatigue and enjoying strong support from local fans.
Regarding the team’s objective for these matches, striker Nguyễn Tiến Linh affirmed their determination to secure victories in both games: “Our immediate goal is very clear: to win both matches against Nepal. In November, we will face Laos again, aiming for another 3 points. Then in March, when we play Malaysia at home, the entire team will give their all to secure full points and keep hopes alive for qualification.”
