Ancelotti's teammate played at age 82 and suffered a 0-10 defeat

At 82, the ex-goalkeeper who once played alongside Carlo Ancelotti, Lamberto Boranga, continued to wear gloves and compete for Trevana Club, even though his team faced a significant 0-10 defeat.

The football world has witnessed many stories of players defying time, but Lamberto Boranga stands out as a unique symbol. At 82, he still took the field for Trevana Club, becoming the oldest player in Italian football history.

Boranga began his career in 1961, playing over 100 Serie A matches for Fiorentina, Parma, and Cesena. At Parma, he shared the field with a young talent named Carlo Ancelotti, who later became a legendary coach. Six decades later, football remains an inseparable companion for Boranga.

In his debut match for Trevana against Foligno, his team lost 0-10, and Boranga was substituted after conceding five goals. However, for him, this was not a reason to be upset: “I made two mistakes, but also had three or four excellent saves,” he said with a smile. At an age when many are resting in the stands, Boranga still dived to close angles and made quick, sharp reflex saves rarely seen.

Throughout a career spanning over fifty years, Boranga has announced retirement multiple times, only to return. His first retirement was in 1993 while playing for Bastardo, but he came back in 2009 with Ammeto, then continued with Papiano until 2015. After a few years off, he unexpectedly returned with Marottese, and now plays for Trevana.

Not only a player, Boranga is also a sports doctor. He graduated in medicine and served as the team doctor for Bastardo, where he both cared for players and played as goalkeeper.

Beyond the pitch, Boranga is a world record holder in athletics. In 2012, he set the M70 (over 70 years old) triple jump record with a distance of 10.75m, and also holds the M65 long jump record (5.47m). This month, he registered to compete in the European Masters Athletics Championship in Madeira, in the high jump event.

When asked about his age, Boranga joked: “Like Luka Modric, you can't measure age just by years. At 50, you can still be young—just in a different way.”

Perhaps it is this spirit that allows the “old goalkeeper” Boranga to live on with his passion, becoming a symbol of immortality in sports, where age is just a number, and a loving heart for football never grows old.
