According to SPORT, Real Madrid is reportedly prepared to take a bold step in 2026 if negotiations to renew Vinicius Jr.’s contract remain deadlocked.
Sources confirm that the Spanish royal club may put the Brazilian forward on the transfer list if both parties fail to reach a consensus before then.
It has been revealed that the preliminary agreement between Real Madrid and Vinicius has fallen through, although they had previously agreed on some points. The 25-year-old is said to have initiated reopening talks to reduce tension, but the main sticking point remains financial. Vinicius reportedly demands a net salary of about 25 million euros per season on a five-year contract — a figure well beyond what Real Madrid is willing to offer.
Real Madrid is considering selling Vinicius.
If no deal is reached by next summer, Real Madrid is ready to consider all transfer proposals for Vinicius, even if it results in financial loss.
Although the club’s management still recognizes his significant role in the squad, Vinicius is no longer considered "untouchable" at Bernabeu. The royal club also wants to avoid the situation of the Brazilian player leaving on a free transfer in 2027 when his current contract expires.
If Vinicius departs, Real Madrid already has a "Plan B": to restart the pursuit of Erling Haaland — Manchester City’s star. President Florentino Perez has long regarded Haaland as a strategic target, and the close bond between the Norwegian striker and Jude Bellingham could be a key factor in making this transfer happen.
Additionally, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimienta, has a strong relationship with Real Madrid and has stated that Haaland’s move to Santiago Bernabeu will only happen if Vinicius or Kylian Mbappé leaves the club.
Financially, this deal is within Real Madrid’s capabilities, with Haaland’s transfer fee estimated at around 180 million euros — an amount that could be compensated by selling Vinicius.
Currently, Real Madrid’s position is to keep Vinicius, but not at any cost. He remains an important figure in the club’s long-term strategy, but the management is prepared to act decisively if extension talks continue to stall.
