At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to leave his mark by being honored with his first-ever prestigious Globe Award at the 2025 Portugal Football Awards.
Cristiano Ronaldo was celebrated at the Portugal Football Globes Gala 2025 held on the evening of October 7th in Lisbon. At the event organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Ronaldo became the first person in history to receive the prestigious Globe Award (Globe Prestige Award) — a newly established category created to honor individuals with lasting influence and significant contributions to Portuguese football.
The ceremony took place at Convento do Beato — a historic venue in Lisbon’s capital — gathering numerous football stars, media, and iconic figures from Portuguese sports. The Globe Prestige Award is regarded as a lifetime achievement honor, recognizing players with timeless impact, and Ronaldo is the inaugural recipient of this distinction.
Stepping onto the stage amid warm applause, CR7 expressed his profound pride: “Being the first to receive this award in my homeland means more than any title I have ever won. Football has given me so much — trophies, goals, but above all, identity and connection. This award is not the peak; it is a reminder that I still have challenges to conquer.”
This award not only acknowledges Ronaldo’s 22-year journey with the national team but also stands as a testament to his legacy. The Al Nassr player still holds two remarkable records: the top goal scorer and the most capped player in Portuguese football history. FPF describes Ronaldo as “an icon not only of Portuguese football but of the world.”
On his personal social media, Ronaldo shared his feelings: “Proud of this special recognition. 22 years with the national team and my passion remains unchanged. Thank you to all the coaches, teammates, and fans who have supported me.”
Not only Ronaldo, but the Gala also honored the Portuguese national team as “Team of the Year” following their UEFA Nations League victory, along with awards for Vitinha, Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes, and Gonçalo Ramos — young stars elevating Portuguese football to new heights.
In his closing speech, Ronaldo affirmed that he still has major goals ahead: “We are preparing for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. I enjoy every day of training and every match. My goal is to help Portugal win and qualify for the World Cup.”
At 40, while many have retired from the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to enrich his record not only with goals but also as a symbol of greatness. The prestigious Globe Award is a well-deserved recognition of CR7’s glorious, enduring journey that shows no sign of stopping.
