Coach Kim Sang Sik reacts unexpectedly to FIFA sanctioning 7 naturalized Malaysian players
The head coach of Vietnam's national team provided a clear statement about Malaysia's naturalization controversy.
The case of FIFA penalizing the Malaysian Football Association for illegally naturalizing 7 players continues to attract significant attention from the regional public. Recently, the world football governing body also released specific evidence which, if Malaysia fails to successfully appeal, will likely result in heavy penalties. It is also possible that the "Malayan Tigers" will be handed a 0-3 defeat in the match against Vietnam on June 10.
At the press conference before the match against Nepal on the afternoon of October 8, Vietnam’s head coach Kim Sang Sik was asked about this issue. The Korean coach clearly stated his viewpoint:
"I think this matter should be handled by FIFA. Regardless of the final outcome, I respect FIFA's decision. Actually, this is not the main issue. We need to focus on winning against Nepal rather than worrying about this," Coach Kim shared. This was also the first time the Vietnam head coach publicly addressed this matter.
Earlier, striker Nguyen Tien Linh also affirmed that Vietnam’s team is not concerned about FIFA’s sanctions on the Malaysian Football Association. Instead, the entire team focuses on their own mission:“That is FIFA and AFC’s responsibility. The Vietnam team only concentrates on its own tasks. Whether Malaysia participates or not, what matters is that we improve day by day, showing better form with each training session and match.”
On Malaysia’s side, their Football Association (FAM) stated they have officially submitted an appeal. However, according to domestic experts, their chances of reversing the situation are very slim because FIFA surely conducted a thorough investigation before making the announcement.
