The World Football Federation appointed six Malaysian officials during the FIFA Council meeting on October 2, 2025.
FIFA announced the appointment of several Southeast Asian football officials to key committees for the 2025–2029 term. This highlights Southeast Asia's growing influence in global football governance. Among them, Malaysia is the Southeast Asian country with the highest number of appointed officials, totaling six.
Specifically, Mr. Hamidin Mohd Amin was appointed to the FIFA Council and Communications Committee, Mr. Windsor John, currently Secretary General of the Asian Football Confederation, was appointed to the FIFA Coordination Group - Confederations, and Mr. Parusuraman Subramanian was named Vice President of Ethics (Investigations Department).
Mr. Gurcharan Singh serves on the FIFA Medical Committee, Mr. Sivasundaram Sithamparam is part of the Technical & Technological Development, Innovation & Digital Transformation Committee, and finally, Ms. Suraya Yaacob is a member of the FIFA Women’s Football Committee.
Having as many as six Malaysian officials appointed to important FIFA committees demonstrates the strong international reputation of Malaysian football. Unfortunately, recent controversies regarding the illegal naturalization of seven players have somewhat affected the image of Malaysian football.
Of course, FIFA's appointment of Malaysian officials does not impact the aforementioned issue. Previously, there was also one Vietnamese representative in the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. However, according to Articles 35 and 36 of FIFA's Disciplinary Code, if a committee member has a connection that affects impartiality, they will not participate in handling that case.
Regarding the Vietnam Football Federation, four officials were also appointed by FIFA in this round. Firstly, VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn was appointed as a member of the National Team Competitions Committee, VFF Secretary General Nguyễn Văn Phú joined the Medical Committee, Deputy Secretary General Nguyễn Thanh Hà was named to the Women’s Football Committee, and Ms. Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Dung was appointed to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.
