The decisive 7-1 triumph against U17 Guam enabled U17 Hong Kong (China) to move up to first place in Group D during the 2026 U17 Women's Asian qualifying round.
On the afternoon of October 15th, at Binh Duong Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City), the match between U17 Hong Kong (China) and U17 Guam took place as part of Group D in the 2026 U17 Women's Asian qualifiers.
In the 3rd minute, Hong Kong (China) quickly scored the opening goal. From a not-so-powerful shot by Huen Selby, Guam’s goalkeeper Ahela Kaae let the ball slip between her legs, allowing Hong Kong (China) to take a 1-0 lead.
At the 20th minute, Guam unexpectedly equalized with a well-executed free kick by Ettleman. The ball bounced and rose, going beyond the reach of Hong Kong’s goalkeeper, leveling the match at 1-1.
However, Guam’s joy was short-lived. In the 22nd minute, goalkeeper Ahela Kaae made another error by failing to catch the ball, allowing Ming Yee to score a rebound and put Hong Kong ahead 2-1. Hong Kong (China) maintained control and continued to pressure their opponent. In the 40th minute, Wong Tsz Yiu unleashed a beautiful long-range shot to make it 3-1, followed by Chong Ching Lam’s spinning finish that sealed the first half at 4-1.
Guam’s goalkeeper troubles continued into the second half when Ahela Kaae erred again early on, gifting Hong Kong (China) their fifth goal. Ming Yee only had to lightly tap the ball just in front of the goal line, but the goalkeeper was flustered and failed to control it, allowing the ball to roll into the net. Not stopping there, substitute Chua Sophia scored twice at minutes 49 and 67, completing the 7-1 victory for U17 Hong Kong (China).
After the second round, both U17 Vietnam and U17 Hong Kong (China) have 3 points each, but Hong Kong leads Group D temporarily due to a better goal difference. This means Coach Okiyama Masahiko’s team must win against Hong Kong (China) in the final match to secure a spot in the 2026 U17 Women's Asian Championship finals.
