Supercomputer makes surprising prediction for Liverpool vs MU match

The Opta supercomputer has provided insights and forecasts for the upcoming game between Liverpool and Manchester United.

This weekend, all eyes in the Premier League’s 8th round will be on Anfield Stadium, where Manchester United will visit their fierce rivals Liverpool.

Although Liverpool are currently on a three-game losing streak across all competitions, they are still considered the favorites for the upcoming clash. This assessment comes from the supercomputer Opta which confirms predictions that are significantly one-sided.

According to this, Opta foresees Liverpool having a 73.3%chance of winning. The Kop also have nearly a 90% probability of avoiding defeat, while Manchester United’s chances of securing three points stand at only 11.2%.

The remaining 15.5%is attributed to a draw, which has occurred in both of the last two seasons when these teams met in Merseyside.

Furthermore, the team led by coach Arne Slot enjoys full support from historical data.

According to statistics from Opta, Liverpool have lost only once in their last 14 Premier League encounters against Manchester United, achieving 7 wins and 6 draws. The sole defeat happened at Old Trafford in August 2022, with a 1-2 scoreline. Since the 2018-19 season, no Premier League team with at least three meetings has lost fewer matches to Manchester United than Liverpool.

Manchester United’s nightmare at Anfield continues. The last time the "Red Devils" left with a victory was nearly a decade ago, when Wayne Rooney scored the only goal in a 1-0 win back in January 2016, shortly after Jurgen Klopp took charge of Liverpool.

If Liverpool fail to win in the upcoming rematch, they will become only the second team in Premier League history to remain unbeaten in 10 consecutive home games against Manchester United, following Chelsea’s run from 2002 to 2012.

Ahead of this challenging away fixture, Manchester United have just regained winning form by defeating Sunderland in round 7. Old Trafford’s team will aim for their first back-to-back Premier League wins under coach Ruben Amorim, despite the Portuguese manager having nearly a year of experience in England.
