Vietnam U17 women's team secured a narrow 1-0 win over Hong Kong U17 women (China), thereby officially earning a spot in the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup final tournament. Hải Yến’s valuable goal not only helped Vietnam surpass the Group D qualifiers but also proved the determination of coach Okiyama Masahiko’s squad.
The match against Hong Kong was regarded as the "final" of Group D, since both teams had 3 points after the first round. Vietnam U17 defeated Guam 5-0, while Hong Kong overcame the same opponent 7-1, temporarily leading on goal difference.
Therefore, coach Okiyama’s team was compelled to win in order to secure the only qualifying spot from the group.
