In the qualifiers for the AFC U17 Women's Championship, Vietnam's U17 women's team was placed in Group D alongside Guam U17 and Hong Kong (China) U17 teams. In the opening match, coach Okiyama Masahiko’s squad had a strong start by defeating Guam U17 with a dominant 5-0 score. Meanwhile, Hong Kong (China) U17 beat Guam U17 7-1, temporarily leading the group based on goal difference.

The match between Vietnam U17 women and Hong Kong (China) U17 women was crucial, deciding the sole qualifying spot for the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup finals.

At the start of the game, Vietnam’s U17 women took the initiative, launching attacks from the outset. However, the Hong Kong (China) players demonstrated significant improvement in stamina and defensive skills, making it challenging for the home team to penetrate the goal area.

Gradually regaining control, the Vietnamese players created several dangerous chances. In the 30th minute, Hong Thai’s sharp header forced goalkeeper Yau Hazel to make a flying save. Continuous attempts from Phuong Vy, Minh Anh, and Thao Nguyen failed to score before the end of the first half.

In the second half, Vietnam U17 women maintained pressure and kept attacking. After persistent efforts, in the 66th minute, from a precise pass by Hong Thai, Hai Yen skillfully controlled the ball inside the penalty area and fired a sharp angled shot to open the scoring at 1-0 for Vietnam U17 women. In the final minutes, the Vietnamese team played solidly, kept their formation tight, and preserved the lead until the final whistle.

After the match, coach Okiyama Masahiko said: “We faced a very tough game because the opponent only needed a draw to advance. However, the players showed great spirit, followed the tactics, and never gave up. This victory is a well-deserved reward for the entire team’s efforts.”

Concluding the qualifiers, the Vietnam U17 women's team won both matches, scored 6 goals, conceded none, topped Group D, and officially qualified for the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup finals. This achievement not only highlights the remarkable progress of Vietnam's young women's football but also signals positive developments in nurturing future talent, aiming to maintain Vietnam women's football’s strong position in the continental arena.
