A former Premier League winning coach could replace Postecoglou

Following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, Nottingham Forest's management is urgently searching for a new head coach to succeed the Australian strategist.

Just hours after a 0-3 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League, Ange Postecoglou was officially relieved of his duties by Nottingham Forest. He is the second coach to be dismissed at City Ground this season, after Nuno Espirito Santo left earlier due to conflicts with the club’s leadership.

Since taking charge, Postecoglou managed 8 games without a single victory, recording only 2 draws and suffering 6 defeats. This poor performance has dropped Forest to 18th place in the Premier League standings, facing the threat of relegation.

Many fans are puzzled why Forest did not change managers before the international break, which would have been an ideal time for a new coach to familiarize himself with the squad. Now, the club must rush to find a replacement as Forest prepares for their Europa League match against FC Porto this Thursday.

According to reporter Rob Dorsett (Sky Sports), Forest is negotiating with Sean Dyche, while also considering coach Roberto Mancini. Dorsett revealed:

“Sean Dyche is currently in talks to become Nottingham Forest’s new manager, but Roberto Mancini remains a potential candidate. Dyche could be appointed soon if Chairman Marinakis decides to finalize the deal. The management values Dyche for his organizational skills, discipline, and fighting spirit, qualities that could help Forest avoid relegation.”

Sean Dyche is seen as the most suitable candidate due to his extensive experience in relegation battles with Burnley and Everton. Additionally, Dyche once played for Nottingham Forest, making this a sort of “old connection.”

Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini brings prestige and class but represents a risky choice. The Italian coach has been away from club football since leaving Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2018.

His last two roles were both at the national team level, leading Italy to win EURO 2020 and more recently coaching Saudi Arabia. Although he won the Premier League title in 2011/12 with Man City, many experts believe Mancini’s return to the Premier League now would be a significant gamble.

For Forest, time is running out. They need a coach who can stabilize the locker room, revive the fighting spirit, and help the team escape danger. While Dyche is considered the “leading candidate,” the final decision rests with owner Evangelos Marinakis, known for his bold choices.

If Dyche returns to City Ground, it could mark a fresh start for Forest. If Mancini is chosen, fans will wait to see if the former Premier League champion’s former glory can reignite a team currently in crisis.
