The trio of Thai Thi Thao, Duong Thi Van, and Ngan Thi Van Su are required to train apart from the main group at the Vietnam women's national team.
On October 21, the Vietnam women's national team officially began their first training session of the third gathering in 2025, preparing for the 33rd SEA Games, which will be held in Thailand this December. This training camp is taking place at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi.
On the opening day, all 26 players called up were present, settled into their accommodations, and started the first training session that same afternoon. The session attracted significant media attention.
In another development, the three players Thai Thi Thao, Duong Thi Van, and Ngan Thi Van Su are currently training separately to recover from injuries and await their return. The women's national team aims to defend their SEA Games gold medal and is also preparing extensively for international tournaments in 2026.
According to the plan, starting from November 20, the women's team will travel to Japan for training and is expected to play three friendly matches against clubs selected by the Japan Football Association that align with the coaching staff’s tactical vision. After this training period, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City to acclimate to weather conditions similar to Thailand before heading to the 33rd SEA Games.
Before the training session, head coach Mai Duc Chung stated: “Currently, 26 athletes have gathered completely. Some coaches and players from the Ho Chi Minh City women's club have not yet joined as they are preparing for the Asian Women's Club Championship scheduled for November. In the coming period, the team will continue training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, with plans to play three friendly matches before November 20.”
Coach Mai Duc Chung also added: “The team has had many opportunities to compete against strong opponents such as France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and recently the Australian youth women's team at the Southeast Asian tournament. Although the players' physique and stamina remain limited, Vietnamese players show resilient fighting spirit and endurance. At this stage, the coaching staff will focus on enhancing physical training and tactical drills to improve close-contact playing ability.”
