Thai media have recommended Coach Park Hang Seo as the new head coach of the national team after FAT terminated Coach Masatada Ishii.
On October 21, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced the dismissal of Coach Masatada Ishii after a series of poor results by the "War Elephants" recently. FAT's statement clarified:
“The Football Association of Thailand has decided to part ways with head coach Masatada Ishii after a comprehensive evaluation by the technical department. His coaching methods, team-building direction, and recent match results did not meet the criteria set by the association.”
Immediately, the Thai press identified suitable candidates to replace the Japanese strategist. Thairath named three surprising options: Coach Anthony Hudson (Technical Director of FAT), Coach Shin Tae Yong (former head coach of Indonesia), and Coach Park Hang Seo (former head coach of Vietnam’s national team).
This is not the first time the former Vietnam national team coach has been a top candidate for head coach positions in regional national teams. Not long ago, after Coach Patrick Kluivert was dismissed, Indonesian media also collectively recommended PSSI to invite the Korean strategist as his replacement.
“Park Hang Seo, former head coach of Vietnam’s national team and 2018 ASEAN Cup champion, has been unemployed since January 2023. He is regarded as someone deeply knowledgeable about Southeast Asian football, both at youth and senior levels, since he also led Vietnam’s U23 team,”Thairath analyzed.
The "split" between FAT and Coach Masatada Ishii was not smooth recently, as the Japanese coach accused FAT of unprofessional conduct.
Regarding the appointment of a new head coach for Thailand’s national team, the technical department of the Football Association will select and review this matter as soon as possible to ensure team continuity before the friendly match against Singapore during FIFA Days, followed by the match against Sri Lanka in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
