A former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Man Utd can definitely cause a surprise in the Premier League title race this season.
In a recent interview, Rene Meulensteen, who was a close assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson during his prime from 2007 to 2013, shared some unexpected views about his old club Man Utd.
According to Meulensteen, Man Utd needs to maintain their current form and gain some momentum, while some rivals like Arsenal face squad issues, to create a surprise in the Premier League title race this season.
Specifically, the Dutch strategist stated: "The Premier League always holds unexpected twists. If Arsenal lose one or two key players and slip up in a few matches, everything will instantly change.
That could definitely happen in the final stretch. I believe Arsenal, Man City, and Liverpool remain the top three contenders for the title, but Man Utd cannot be ruled out if they keep up their current good run of form. Just three consecutive wins can provide a huge boost in morale and turn the team into a formidable force.
At that point, the race will open up, because currently they are only two points behind Liverpool despite a shaky start to the season."

Man Utd have just achieved an important victory at Anfield against Liverpool in the 8th round of the Premier League, marking the first time the "Red Devils" have won two consecutive matches in England’s top-tier competition under coach Ruben Amorim.
Despite a less impressive start this season, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s minority owner, remains fully confident in Amorim. The English billionaire confirmed the Portuguese coach will have at least three years to execute a long-term plan, demonstrating the club’s long-term vision.
As for Amorim, the 40-year-old manager admitted that Man Utd are not yet ready to compete for the title this season, but emphasized the need for gradual improvements with small changes to become a genuine contender by the 2027/28 season.

One of the key factors determining whether the "Red Devils" can challenge Arsenal, Man City, and Liverpool this season is maintaining consistency.
Not participating in European competitions and being eliminated early from the Carabao Cup might actually be an advantage for Old Trafford. While rivals must divide their focus across multiple tournaments, Man Utd can concentrate fully on the Premier League until the end of the year. The schedule is also quite favorable, starting with a home game against Brighton this weekend, followed by an away match at Nottingham Forest in early November.
