Just crowned World Cup champions, the African team 'recruits' a Real Madrid figure

Abian Perdomo, who is presently responsible for training and methodology at Real Madrid, is set to become part of Morocco’s national team coaching staff.

According to MARCA, Abian Perdomo, currently leading training and methodology at Real Madrid, is finalizing procedures to officially join the coaching team of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF)

This move clearly reflects Morocco’s ambition to develop football. After the national team reached the World Cup semifinals and recently won the U20 World Cup in Rabat, the FRMF aims to elevate its international standing in the medium term. Abian will be a key figure, bringing 13 years of experience at Real Madrid (2012–2025) and three years at Atletico de Madrid’s academy (2009–2012).

In Morocco, he will assist Fathi Jamal, a football legend who led Morocco’s U20 to fourth place in the 2005 World Cup and formerly coached the senior national team. Jamal currently oversees recruiting young talents like Perdomo to develop domestic football.

Together with Abian and Fernando da Cruz, the African representatives aim to establish an expert committee to advance youth football, not relying solely on players competing in Spain or France.

Previously at Real Madrid, Perdomo was a key assistant to the academy leadership, bridging the gap between youth teams and the first team, known for his talent identification skills and contributing to the development of players like Nico Paz, playing an important role in the 2021/22 season.

At that time, when coach Carlo Ancelotti was absent due to COVID-19, Perdomo took his first seat on the first team bench at Balaidos, then continued coaching through 2023, contributing to the Champions League victory in Paris and La Liga title in 2022.

Now, he leaves Real Madrid to bring his valuable experience to Morocco, ready to mentor the next Achraf Hakimi or Brahim Diaz in reaching football’s highest levels.
