Chelsea broke their own Champions League record twice

Chelsea broke their own Champions League record in the first half of the match against Ajax, and they managed to do it once more before the half concluded.

Chelsea demonstrated overwhelming strength against Ajax within the first 45 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutch side was reduced to ten men in the 15th minute due to a harsh foul by Kenneth Taylor. Shortly after, Marc Guiu opened the scoring for Chelsea, followed by Moises Caicedo doubling the lead in the 28th minute, giving the home team full control of the game.

Former Man Utd striker Wout Weghorst pulled one back for Ajax from the penalty spot. However, Enzo Fernandez and Estevao also scored penalties, helping Enzo Maresca’s team finish the first half 4-1 ahead.

During this explosive half, Chelsea set a new European record. At 19 years, 9 months, and 18 days old, Marc Guiu became the youngest player to score for The Blues in the Champions League. Yet just 33 minutes later, Estevao surpassed his teammate to claim the new record by scoring at 18 years, 5 months, and 28 days old.

After the break, Tyrique George extended Chelsea’s lead to 5-1. Ironically, without the previous goals from Guiu and Estevao, George (aged 19 years, 8 months, and 18 days) would have been the youngest Chelsea player to score in European competition.

This was also the first time in history that three teenage players scored for Chelsea in a single European match, highlighting the trust coach Enzo Maresca places in young talents since taking charge of the club.

Nineteen-year-old center-back Josh Acheampong was also given his Premier League starting debut against Nottingham Forest last weekend, where he scored contributing to a 3-0 victory.

Following the win over Ajax, coach Enzo Maresca was asked about his use of young players in European competition.

In response, the Italian tactician stated: "I am very proud. This is a special night for the club and the young players.

Guiu scored about five or six goals for Chelsea in the Conference League last season. Ty also found the net in the Premier League, and Estevao did the same. Overall, it was a fantastic evening, especially for the youngsters and the entire team.

This is exactly the club’s development direction. We have many young players. I believe last season Chelsea had the youngest squad in Premier League history, and this season we continue on that path..."

With this result, Chelsea climbed to 11th place in the standings with six points, while Ajax remains at the bottom of the table with no points.
