Pedri 'adds salt' to Real Madrid's wounds

In an interview on Barcelona's official website, midfielder Pedri showed no hesitation in his confidence ahead of facing Real Madrid, even citing their four consecutive wins last season as a foundation.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are demonstrating strong form in this La Liga season. After 9 rounds, Real Madrid leads with 24 points, closely followed by Barcelona with 22 points. These two Spanish giants continue to dominate the league, far ahead of the rest.

Before the showdown at Santiago Bernabéu, Barcelona's midfielder Pedri openly expressed his confidence on the club’s official site. He affirmed that the team is not intimidated by Real Madrid, despite struggling with injuries. Speaking about El Clásico, Pedri stated that this is a match “everyone wants to be part of.”

Additionally, Pedri believes that when entering El Clásico, factors like current form become irrelevant: “In an El Clásico, how the teams have been performing recently doesn’t really matter. What you did in previous matches holds little significance.”

Nonetheless, the 22-year-old still looks back at last season as a benchmark to aim for: “I think we played excellently last year. Now the team needs to regain that level. There is always room for improvement, but remember we won all four El Clásico matches last season. Hopefully, we can achieve the same this year.”

Pedri’s statement directly stings Real Madrid’s wounds, as they were defeated in all four encounters against Barcelona last season.

Pedri does not deny the difficulties his team is facing: “Of course, I want the whole squad available, the coach wants that too—who wouldn’t? But those who are fit will fight with all their might to secure three points.”

When asked about Real Madrid, Pedri showed respect but no fear: “They are now trying to control possession more and, as usual, remain very dangerous up front. We will try to dominate the game and control the match.”

The upcoming El Clásico promises to be a high-level contest between the two best-performing teams in La Liga. Real Madrid has home advantage, but Barcelona carries the confidence and resilience from four consecutive wins in recent clashes.
