Even while under a FIFA ban, the naturalized defender Facundo Garces has earned commendations from Malaysian football leaders for his professional spirit and optimistic demeanor.
Tunku Ismail expressed admiration for the fighting spirit and professionalism of the Malaysian national team center-back, Facundo Garces, despite the player facing a suspension imposed by FIFA.
At a press conference held at a hotel in Subang on October 25th, Tunku Ismail revealed that he had spoken with several players among the seven Malaysian internationals banned by FIFA, including Garcés. Although disappointed by the sanction, the 25-year-old player showed a positive mindset and a strong desire to return to serve the national team soon.
“From a sporting perspective, Garcés is very upset because the punishment affects his form and fitness. However, as he himself stated, he did nothing wrong and hopes the matter will be resolved quickly. Garcés has not given up; he still yearns to contribute to the national team, which I greatly respect,” said Tunku Ismail.
The Malaysian football leader emphasized that the players' professional attitude during this difficult period is evidence of the maturity of the country's football. “I truly respect how they face these challenges. Despite the pressure, they maintain a positive spirit and love for the nation,” he added.
According to Tunku Ismail, the FIFA sanctions will undoubtedly impact the players' careers, but the crucial thing is that they do not lose faith. “They are still young with long futures ahead. What is admirable is that they have not given up and continue to hold onto their ambition to return,” he affirmed.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) along with the seven involved players are currently waiting for the appeal results submitted to FIFA. The official decision is expected to be announced on October 30th.
This case has attracted significant attention from the media and fans. Many believe that if the appeal succeeds, it will be a huge morale boost for Malaysian football, especially as the national team prepares for its final international matches of the year.
Tunku Ismail's support is seen as a great source of encouragement, helping Garcés and the other players gain confidence to overcome this challenging period.
