South Korean Coach Secures First Victory After Leaving Vietnam National Team

After 8 straight matches without a win, consisting of draws and defeats since the start of the competition, Coach Choi Won Kwon finally recorded his first victory after leaving the Vietnam National Team.

Thus, after a total of 9 matches played (8 in the V-League and 1 in the National Cup), Coach Choi Won Kwon has secured his first win since taking charge of Thanh Hóa Club. The Korean strategist endured a very challenging start to the season with the Thanh Hóa team, and ultimately, his efforts were rewarded with a victory in the 8th round of the V-League.

Visiting SLNA, another team desperate for points, Thanh Hóa also faced many difficulties. The Thanh Hóa squad could not dominate their opponent as expected but eventually earned their first 3 points in this year's V-League thanks to the outstanding performance of their key striker Rimario in the 32nd minute.

This victory also marks Coach Choi Won Kwon’s first triumph since leaving the Vietnam National Team to lead Thanh Hóa Club. Taking on the head coach role of a V-League team after winning the 2024 AFF Cup with Vietnam, the Korean strategist faced numerous challenges until finally securing this initial win.

Following the 2024 AFF Cup championship, assistant coach Choi Won Kwon unexpectedly left the Vietnam National Team. Previously, he was regarded as the right-hand man to Coach Kim Sang Sik from the very beginning of his tenure in Vietnam. His crucial role was similar to that of Lee Young Jin, who was considered the "brain" behind Coach Park Hang Seo in the past.

After achieving his first victory since taking charge of Thanh Hóa, Coach Choi Won Kwon seemed to relieve a heavy burden he had carried for some time. He stated: "Some may think Thanh Hóa’s win was partly due to luck. In previous matches, we played well but lacked the fortune to secure a victory.

However, I don’t see it that way because we fully demonstrated what we had prepared. The most important thing is that the entire team earned all 3 points. Our goal is to take it one match at a time, and in the next game, we will still aim for a win,"he said.
