In the post-match press conference, Thanh Hoá’s coach Choi Won Kwon disclosed that he has yet to receive his salary after three months on the job.
Đông Á Thanh Hoá club secured their first victory of the 2025/26 season by defeating SLNA 1-0 on the evening of October 26. The only goal was scored by striker Rimario Gordon, who is currently applying for Vietnamese citizenship.
After the match, Coach Choi Won Kwon seemed relieved from the burden he had been carrying. He stated: "Many might think this Đông Á Thanh Hoá win was somewhat lucky. In previous matches, we played well but lacked luck to secure victories.
However, I don’t see it that way, because we fully executed everything we prepared. The most important thing is the team earned all 3 points. Our goal is to take it one game at a time, and in the next match, we will still aim for a win," he said.
Notably, the Korean strategist also surprisingly shared about the club’s current financial situation: "As you all know, Đông Á Thanh Hóa is in a very difficult situation. Up to now, it has been 4-5 months without receiving salaries. Personally, I have worked here for 3 months and have not been paid," Coach Choi Won Kwon revealed.
"However, today’s victory might change the situation and improve our ranking. I hope it will help the team become more united and bring positive changes behind the scenes,"the Korean coach concluded.
The valuable win against SLNA helped Thanh Hoá leap to 10th place on the standings with 7 points, though their gap with the bottom group remains very narrow. In the next round, the Thanh Hoá team will have an emotional reunion with Coach Velizar Popov when hosting Thể Công Viettel at home.
