Victory is not peaceful either, Amorim warned 'don't play with fate' at MU

Despite Manchester United's success in the Premier League, Rio Ferdinand thinks Coach Ruben Amorim is being reckless by insisting on the three-center-back system.

Manchester United has just achieved three consecutive wins in the Premier League, brightening the atmosphere at Old Trafford after a turbulent start. However, according to legend Rio Ferdinand, Coach Ruben Amorim has yet to fully earn absolute trust despite the recent positive results.

Speaking on his personal podcast, the former MU defender said Amorim remains “stubborn” with his tactical philosophy, which could cost him dearly. “I do admire that perseverance a bit, but to be honest, he is gambling with his own position. Amorim hasn’t changed much, just tweaking a few details,” Ferdinand commented.

Ferdinand emphasized that Man Utd fans are not demanding a complete overhaul, but simply want the Portuguese coach to be more flexible in his playing style. “That’s also what many supporters hope for – just some fine-tuning, not a total breakdown. Sometimes maybe play more cautiously without the ball, don’t always push too high risk,” he added.

According to the former England defender, full pressing for 90 minutes is impossible with Manchester United’s current squad. “You can’t press for the entire 90 minutes unless you have an extremely fit squad. PSG can do it, but this coach can’t with the current lineup,” Ferdinand analyzed.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that if Amorim keeps faith and helps Manchester United qualify for the Champions League, the coach can be proud of his decision. “If I were to change, I’d probably be out of a job now because I’d be going against my own principles,” Ferdinand speculated this might be what Amorim would say in the future.

Currently, Manchester United continues their revival by defeating Brighton 4-2 at Old Trafford. This marks the third consecutive Premier League win for the “Red Devils” and showcases a clear improvement in the attacking line under Ruben Amorim. With 16 points, MU has climbed to 6th place, just behind Man City on goal difference. Clearly, Amorim’s adjustments have been effective and directly respond to the criticism he has faced recently.
