On October 29th Beijing time, the U17 Women's World Cup wrapped up four round-of-16 matches in a wildly eventful evening. The outcomes were: the Netherlands upset title contenders USA in an 8-7 penalty shootout; Brazil’s team scored across multiple players to beat China 3-0; North Korea dominated host Morocco 6-1 with relentless firepower; and Italy, in great form, routed Nigeria 4-0. Thus, the quarterfinalists include Brazil, the Netherlands, North Korea, and Italy!

Although Brazil finished second in their group, they were fortunate to face China. Brazil dominated the match physically and in speed, completely overwhelming China. Three Brazilian players combined to score three goals, securing a 3-0 victory and a spot in the quarterfinals. China, unfortunately eliminated, showed a clear gap in quality compared to stronger teams, but reaching the last 16 is still a respectable achievement.

The USA women's team came into the tournament strongly, winning all three group matches by at least three goals each. However, historically, the USA has struggled in World Cups, and this time they hoped to advance further. Facing European powerhouse the Netherlands in the round of 16, they encountered tough resistance. After conceding an early goal and equalizing later, they failed to score a second goal, leading to a penalty shootout where the USA faltered and lost 7-8, resulting in a shocking early exit and dashed championship hopes.
The enigmatic North Korean team has performed powerfully, winning all three group matches to top their group. In the round of 16, they faced host Morocco, a relatively weaker opponent, and were expected to advance if they played well. North Korea went on a rampage, bombarding Morocco with goals early and often. They scored five goals themselves, with Morocco contributing an own goal, quickly taking a 6-0 lead. In the final moments, North Korea eased off, allowing Morocco to score a consolation goal, finishing with a dominant 6-1 victory and securing their fourth straight win to reach the quarterfinals!

Italy’s women faced Nigeria. Italy had also been strong in the group stage with three wins. Against Nigeria, who finished third in their group, Italy controlled the game steadily. Although they struggled to score in the early stages, they broke through just before halftime and then added three more goals, with four different players scoring. Italy won 4-0, achieving their fourth consecutive victory to advance to the quarterfinals!
