In their opening match at the U17 World Cup, the Indonesia U17 squad is set to compete against Zambia.
Following their failure to qualify for the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup, Indonesian football is now focusing on the U17 World Cup youth tournament.
In this competition, Indonesia surprised many by not calling up numerous naturalized players like the senior national team (only 4 out of 23 are naturalized or playing abroad). Before the official matches, coach Nova Arianto’s squad played a test match, earning a 0-0 draw against the U17 Ivory Coast team.
The young team from the Island of a Thousand Islands is gradually developing an organized style of play, focusing on ball control and exploiting the speed of their wing players. The strength of U17 Indonesia lies in their fiery spirit and high pressing ability.
On the other side, U17 Zambia is making their debut at the youth World Cup stage. However, they are not an easy opponent for the Southeast Asian representative. African players are renowned for their physical, fast-paced style and strong contesting skills. Additionally, they possess great stamina, aggressive pressing, and swift finishing inside the box.
The opening Group H match between these two teams promises to be very exciting.
