Vinicius Junior unexpectedly drew attention as coach Carlo Ancelotti publicly condemned his form and playing attitude right on the day the national team call-up list was revealed.
Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the recent El Clasico was nearly overshadowed by Vinicius Junior’s loss of temper after being substituted by coach Xabi Alonso.
In the 72nd minute, Vinicius was replaced by Arda Guler and showed clear frustration by walking straight into the tunnel instead of sitting on the bench. This act sparked public uproar and rumors of discord between the Brazilian star and coach Alonso.
Right after the game, Vinicius issued a public apology on social media, admitting he “let emotions override reason.” The 23-year-old also spoke directly with Alonso to clear up the misunderstanding. The matter was quickly resolved, with Real Madrid’s management confirming “there is no conflict between the two.”
However, during the announcement of Brazil’s squad for the November friendlies, Carlo Ancelotti, who previously coached Vinicius at Real Madrid, commented on the situation.
Ancelotti stated: “We have a very good relationship with Vinicius. When something happens, I always choose to talk it through. I told him directly that it was a mistake. Vinicius understood, apologized, and that’s the end of it. He is an important player for us.”
The Italian coach also emphasized that the relationship between Vinicius and Alonso remains stable: “He has no issues at Real Madrid or with Alonso. As for his personal life, I don’t interfere — I’m a coach, not his father or brother.”
Vinicius’s outburst was reportedly not due to dissatisfaction with the coach but frustration with his own performance. Under Ancelotti’s guidance, he has grown remarkably, evolving from an inconsistent young talent into a key player who helped Real Madrid win the Champions League and La Liga.
Despite the minor incident causing media buzz, Vinicius remains part of both Real Madrid’s and Brazil’s plans. He has been called up by Ancelotti for upcoming friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia and returned to the starting lineup in the recent win over Valencia.
